SUMMARY:Whatcom County Community Conversation Series
DESCRIPTION:Councilmembers are kicking off a series of Community Conversation events this summer aimed at engaging county residents away from the dais. \n\nEach event will include a small rotating group of councilmembers and focus on one of the five County Council districts\, beginning in District 5 on June 17. Local libraries will host these in-person-only community meetings. \n\nThe idea for the Community Conversation series originated with Councilmember Jon Scanlon (At-Large Representative B)\, who wanted to create opportunities for county residents to speak directly with local officials about the topics they care about. The idea quickly caught on with the other members of the Council. \n\n"People aren't always comfortable asking questions or expressing their concerns in the formal setting of a Council meeting\," said Scanlon. "My idea for the Community Conversations was to create a space where we can have an open dialogue. I hope people take a few minutes to stop by\, even if it's just to say hello. We want to hear your questions and your ideas for Whatcom County." \n\n\n\nTuesday\, June 17\n\nCouncilmembers: Barry Buchanan\, Ben Elenbaas\, and Jon Scanlon
